Lesson 3 Benefits of having a good work-life balance

What does work-life balance look like?

  • work-life balance involves the minimization of work-related stress, and the establishing of a stable and sustainable way to work while maintaining health and general well-being.
  • you’re equally fulfilled by the duality of your personal life and your professional life.
  • one facet doesn’t dominate the other, and that when it comes time to switch gears, you feel energized by what’s in store for you that day.

How do we achieve it?

  • No magical formula
  • The key to achieving work-life balance relies on not just what you do while you’re working (i.e., doing meaningful work, finding purpose in your work, feeling like what you do matters, and that you make a positive contribution), but what you do outside of work, as well.
  • In other words, finding fulfillment in hobbies or having go-to methods for restoration are equally important to striking that balance.

Why should we strive for work-life balance?

  • we all deal with stress to some extent; when work takes over our whole lives we don’t have time to deal with our other obligations, which leads to even bigger anxiety and even guilt.
  • A balance would leave us space to deal with each thing at its time.
  • Mental health and physical health go hand in hand
  • There are physical symptoms of poor mental health, specifically on excessive stress and burnout which we will be discussing in more detail later.
  • Taking care of your mental well-being and leaving space for doing things that you enjoy in addition to work, would lead to better health of your organism overall.
  • Work Life Balance Enhances Your Ability to Be Present
  • Better workplace relations
  • Effective management of multiple responsibilities at home and work
